Which Model Do I Choose?

Room C

14:00

200 Intermediate

You have a dropdown with a dozen models in it. You picked one once, and never thought about it again. Then the bill arrived. Someone has been translating text with the most expensive model on the market. Someone else runs Opus for everything, because it sits at the top of the list. What actually separates a small model from a large one? Why do some models think before they answer, and who pays for that? What really gets sent when you ask a simple question? Where does open source fit, and where does your data end up? And when is self-hosting a serious option? In this session we’ll follow a prompt to the model and back, figure out which job belongs to which model, decide when the expensive one is worth it, and when it adds nothing at all.
