Cookie Policy

The small set of cookies BizSource uses, and why.

Draft — publish date not yet set.

1. What cookies we use

BizSource uses a small, deliberately minimal set of cookies, plus one privacy-focused analytics tool. We do not run Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any advertising or retargeting script, and we never sell or share cookie data with advertisers.

CookiePurposeDurationType
authjs.session-tokenKeeps you signed inSession, or until you sign outEssential — required for account features to work
bs_attributionRemembers which tracked link or channel brought you to the site, so that if you register for an event or submit a form shortly after, we can credit the right promotion channel30 daysUsed for internal attribution analytics — see section 3 for how we classify it
Analytics cookie / local storage (PostHog)Lets us see, in aggregate, which pages people visit and which features get used, so we can improve the platform. Only set if you accept the cookie banner shown on your first visit.365 days (PostHog's default retention), or until you withdraw consentNon-essential — set only with your consent; withdraw it any time (see section 3 and the control at the bottom of this page)

2. Cloudflare Turnstile

Public forms (for example, speaker proposals and the contact form) are protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, a privacy-preserving alternative to traditional CAPTCHAs that distinguishes humans from bots without the tracking cookies or puzzle challenges older CAPTCHA services use. Turnstile may set its own cookie or use similar browser signals as part of that check — that's Cloudflare's own mechanism, not ours; see Cloudflare's own cookie policy for details.

3. Essential cookies vs. analytics cookies

We draw a line between two kinds of cookies. Essential cookies — the session cookie, and the bs_attribution cookie — are required for the platform to work, or serve a legitimate interest narrow enough that it doesn't need consent under the ePrivacy Directive: signing you in, and basic attribution for a single conversion event like a registration or form submission. These are set automatically, with no banner.

The analytics cookie is not essential — it helps us understand overall usage patterns across visitors, not any single visit or conversion. That's why it requires your consent, shown as a cookie banner on your first visit. You can accept, decline, or change your mind at any time using the control at the bottom of this page.

Whether bs_attribution qualifies as "strictly necessary" under the ePrivacy Directive without requiring consent is a reasonable position given it's first-party, short-lived, and tied to a single conversion event rather than ongoing tracking — but it's worth a final confirmation during legal review.

4. Controlling cookies

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time. Doing so will sign you out of any active session, and may reduce the accuracy of our attribution and analytics data — which only affects our own understanding of the site, not your ability to use it.

For the analytics cookie specifically, you don't need to touch your browser settings at all — you can withdraw consent at any time using the control at the bottom of this page, or by declining the banner in the first place.

5. Changes to this policy

We added the analytics cookie described above, and the consent banner that gates it, as of the date at the top of this page. We'll update that date again whenever our cookie usage changes — for example, if we ever add advertising cookies, this policy (and our consent mechanism) would need to be updated first.
